Do you know that ZANG FU is the internal organ network which is at the highest level of function in the body? The internal organs in a human body can be classified into five viscera organs (WU ZANG) and six bowel organs (LIU FU). They supply vital instructions to our entire body to allow us to function. Without properly functioning viscera, the qi (氣), blood (血), shen (神), and jing (精) would become pathogenic.
It is important to note the term network as this term denotes its connection between all organs and their pathways. It also shows how one organ and associated pathway can affect another, either positively or negatively when it becomes diseased.
The term ZANG (臟) refers to the organs considered to be YIN (陰) in nature,

Every organ in your body has a repair or maintenance schedule to keep on a daily basis. It is important to know these cycles to understand your health problems. If you feel tired, sluggish, achy, etc. at these particular times of day, you will know which organ is trying to repair the damage done to it, and these ‘feelings’ you are having are the result of the energy being expended to do these repairs.
Large intestine: (or colon) 5am-7am
Small Intestines: 1pm-3pm
Blood Vessels and Arteries: 9pm-11pm
Gallbladder: 11pm -1am
Lungs: The lungs are the first organs of the day that are up for repair and maintenance. The toxic waste from your lungs becomes loosened between 3 to 5 am, and when you awaken, this is why you cough sometimes. Your lungs are trying to expel the loosened waste. If you are coughing in the morning, this indicates that your diet and lifestyle needs tweaking.
Large Intestine or Colon: 5 to 7 am is the time for this organ. A healthy colon needs water to do its job properly, which is flushing waste matter 24/7. The morning is the most important time to drink plenty of water for this process, and the worst time to have caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic and takes water away from your colon to your kidneys and bladder for evacuation. Your body needs water in the morning to do its repair and maintenance of the large intestine and colon. This keeps you from getting constipated, gaining weight, and looking and feeling older. When you irrigate your system every morning with pure water (up to 32 oz.) your health improves.
Stomach: Between 7 and 9 am, the stomach is repairing and does not need a big meal to deal with. While the large intestine and colon needs fluid to repair properly in the morning, the stomach needs very little. Start with fluids (pure water or fresh juiced vegetables) or fresh fruit that is easily digested. However, if you can, drink only fluids in the morning for optimal health.
Spleen: From 9 to 11 am the spleen gets cleaned. During this time/process or when the spleen is in a weakened state, you may suffer with allergies or not be able to shake a cold or flu. This is because the spleen works with the liver and your immune system. A healthy spleen produces antibodies when there is an infection and constantly watches the blood for invaders.
Heart: The time for heart repairs is between 11 am to 1 pm. Your body is removing waste from the heart and you may sometimes notice a rapid heartbeat, double beats and/or skipping beats. Seventy percent of heart attacks occur when the heart is in its repair period.
Small Intestines: Have you noticed that between 1 to 3 pm you are more apt to have indigestion, pain and bloating? If this happens, two things could be wrong:
- Your diet is not what it should be and your food is not digesting
- Your diet is causing problems that are now causing you stress. A proper diet will help take care of these problems
Kidneys and Bladder: From 3 to 7 pm you may notice you’re tired and want a nap. When the kidneys are healthy and working properly, you’ll feel energetic at that time, not tired.
Pancreas: Between 7 to 9 pm do you have intense cravings for sweets or processed carbohydrates that turn to sugar immediately in the system? The kidneys regulate the pancreas, and if you do consume sweets during that period, you may notice low back pain, which is a kidney symptom. The kidneys, bladder and pancreas are all parts of the same whole. If you need a nap early in the evening it is just your pancreas, as directed by your kidneys, putting you out so it can do its repairs.
Blood Vessels and Arteries: From 9 to 11 pm the blood vessels go into repair mode. If you get headaches, feel abnormally tired or weak, this means that the blood vessels are in heavy repair.
Liver and Gallbladder: Between 11 pm to 3 am these two guys go into action. Do you ever have nights when you can’t sleep at this time? This means that waste is not being processed by your liver and it acts as an irritant to your body causing insomnia and frayed nerves. Your brain just won’t stop.
The more you know about your body, the easier it is to maintain your health so start paying attention to your body’s clock and repair schedule to see if you can figure out what’s going on inside you.

Children or foetuses exposed to secondhand smoke could have a higher risk of developing an irregular heart rhythm later in life.
People exposed to secondhand smoke in the womb or as children are at an increased risk later in life for an irregular heart rhythm known as atrial fibrillation, a new study suggests.
“We can’t say that secondhand smoke definitely caused atrial fibrillation” based on this type of study, said senior author Dr. Gregory Marcus from the University of California, San Francisco. “We do need to confirm these findings.”
Atrial fibrillation causes the heart’s upper and lower chambers to stop working together, according to the U.S. Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. The condition increases the risk of stroke, and can cause chest pain and heart failure.
Cigarette smoking is linked to the development of atrial fibrillation, but the link with secondhand smoke exposure was unknown, the researchers write in the journal HeartRhythm.
Using data from 4,976 people taking part in an Internet-based study on heart health, the researchers analysed participants’ exposure to secondhand smoke and whether or not they had atrial fibrillation.
Overall, about 12 percent of participants reported having atrial fibrillation. Those with the condition had an average age of about 62, compared to an average age of about 50 among those without atrial fibrillation.
The researchers accounted for factors that may have affected subjects’ risks for atrial fibrillation, including age, sex, race, other health conditions and smoking and alcohol use.
They found that people exposed to secondhand smoke in the womb or during childhood were about 40 percent more likely to report atrial fibrillation than those who weren’t exposed.
The risk was even higher among people who did not have other risk factors for atrial fibrillation, the researchers write.
Dr. Cuno S.P.M. Uiterwaal of the University Medical Centre Utrecht in The Netherlands speculated in an email to Reuters Health that the impact of secondhand smoke may be more obvious in people without other more significant atrial fibrillation risk factors.
“Papers like these aim to draw attention to the possibility that early-life secondhand smoke exposure may not only have short term consequences, such as to the foetus, but also long-term hazards to offspring,” said Uiterwaal, who was not involved with the study.
Preventing second-hand smoke exposure in early development and life may be one way to reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation later on, the researchers say.
Dementia is described as various symptoms of human cognitive decline involving different underlying disorders that damage language, memory and thinking. Dementia is not a single disease but is a general medical term describing different symptoms affecting a person’s cognition and speech. It’s known that the risks of dementia increase with age, but is not a normal part of aging.
The disease is progressive or chronic in nature and has been estimated to affect about 36.5 million people around the world. It is also estimated that the number will double by the year 2030 and will triple by 2050.
What Are The Causes Of Dementia?
Dementia is caused by the death of brain cells and the neurodegenerative disease. It can also be caused by an injury to the head, a brain tumor or a stroke. Here are some causes on how it affects the brain and can lead to dementia:
Injury – a post-traumatic dementia can be directly related to brain cell death due to injury.
Vascular dementia – results from brain cell death caused by conditions like cerebrovascular disease such as stroke. This condition prevents normal blood circulation, which hinders the proper flow of oxygen to the brain.
Other reversible factors – some form of dementia can be treated by reversing the effects of medication interactions, depression, vitamin deficiency or other underlying causes.
Known Signs And Symptoms Of Dementia
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, a person suffering from dementia may experience some of the following symptoms:
Memory loss – a person asks the same question repeatedly or forgetting he already asked a question is a sign.
Issues with communication – a person can have a language difficulty by forgetting simple words or may be using the wrong ones.
Having difficulty with familiar tasks – say a person started cooking something or starting a task and eventually forgets or leaves it… this is another possible indication of dementia.
Poor judgement – a person suffering from dementia might just leave the house or forget about a child for the day.
Misplacing things – putting things in the wrong places and forgetting about it is another sign.
Changes in personality – a person may become irritable, fearful, suspicious or most absent minded.
The Effects Of Krill Oil On Dementia
There have been many studies about the effectiveness of omega-3 fatty acids in maintaining overall good health. Omega-3 fatty acids help in maintaining a good heart, normal brain function and lower the risks of developing chronic diseases.
Omega- 3 fatty acids are also known to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help in lowering the risks of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease (most well-known disorder under dementia) and promotes normal cognitive function. One great source of omega-3 is krill oil. Krill oil contains high levels of omega-3 and the antioxidant astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is what gives lobsters, krill, shrimp and salmon their pink color.
Different studies found that people consuming omega-3 rich foods and supplements have less cognitive decline and reduced risks of dementia. A Japanese study also found that omega-3 and astaxanthin helps in reducing the compounds that are linked to dementia. The study involved thirty participants between the ages 50 to 69 years old.
The study group was assigned 6mg and 12mg of astaxanthin and 500mg of krill oil every day for 3 months. After 4 months, the study participants showed reduced levels of phospholipid hydroperoxides, a compound that’s linked to developing dementia. The compound levels went down as much as 40%-50% in 4 months. The research concluded that krill oil can be a good alternative in lowering the risks of developing dementia or alleviating the symptoms caused by dementia.
